Rodger and Jadon Govender

All too often we hear about somebody buying a car and turning it around in a few weeks for a certain car show. Sometimes resulting in a shoddy build for the sake of completing it within a given timeframe. So when we heard that Rodger Govender took 5 years to build this 1942 Ford Pickup, we knew we had to have a closer look.

LS swaps are all the rage these days and they are being put into everything from old school trucks to modern day Jap tuners. So, when Mark Morgan-Davies from Rocket 88 told me that he has been busy with some LS swap 4x4’s, I wanted to know more. Mark tells us the story behind his latest creation – a 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser 80 series.

The 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevys are known by enthusiasts as the three golden Chevys. They are considered to be representative of the golden era of the 50s. Allen Boonzaaier is on a quest to own all three and he is off to a good start with this fine specimen. Of the six 1957 Chevy Bel Air Coupés in South Africa, only two can be found with this level of restoration.

An important factor with regards to this build was to remove and replace items instead of customizing them. This was done to allow the car to easily be put back in stock condition. All the original parts were carefully boxed and placed in storage.

He told Francois that he has seen his ad in the paper and that he had a ’48 Ford van to sell. Francois was looking for a ’32 five-window coupe and Andre said that he did not have one of those but did have a 1931 Dodge Brothers. Francois did not know what it looked like and had pics sent to him. He and two friends made the trip out to Willowmore. But when he saw what condition it was in, he felt almost too embarrassed to tell his friends that perhaps they should just head home. So he loaded it up.

A few years ago I asked Brad Hall to keep an eye open for a 1961 to 1969 Lincoln Continental, it’s the one with the so-called slab-side design. I had a Chevy Impala four-door that was slammed with big wheels, it looked really sick, but I still wanted my Continental.

By 2014, Dan had stopped using the Gladiator and wanted to sell it for scrap and metal parts. Martin convinced Dan not to do that. Saying that if he could not find a buyer for the Jeep, he would buy it. As any good grandfather would do, Dan decided to give the Gladiator to Martin as a gift.

Location: Centurion.

The cab looked like any other project that is pulled from a field. Rusted and not looked after. The guys found a chassis from an abandoned project (an F100} that had Jag front and rear suspension already installed. It was perfect for their project. Another great find was a Massey Ferguson Grille that the guys knew would fit their build perfectly.

JP’s interest peaked when Hannes brought home a 1948 Plymouth 2-door Coupe.The car was originally found in Queenstown Eastern Cape.
